Its predecessor is the Citroën AX, both members of the B segment whose representatives have been enlarged significantly until nowadays. After all, there is space enough for four not too big adults and some luggage. Typical french are the many storage possibilities.

By no means a matter of course in this class is the constant presence of a diesel engine in the program since 1996. Matching a good durability for frequent driving. Not so well known in Germany are the many Electrique variants of French manufacturers.

So the Saxo was already quite trendsetting with an electric motor of 20 kW (27 hp), 127 Nm torque and a maximum speed of 91 km/h. However, the range was only 80 km. Probably the electrical version was a reason for the relatively early introduction of the electromechanical power steering.

On the other side of the scale, the top model with sophisticated design. The acceleration of the 16V-engine you can see in the fourth video below, but also the progress made in the body security compared to today in the fifth video. Directly below the picture of a representative of the 'Saxo Cup', the successor to the 'Cup AX', which provides advertising and promotion for juniors in France and six other countries.

Impressive are the 1.65 million worldwide sold vehicles, of which about 77,000 in Germany, and even 2,174 Electrique. 04/16
